Gerald Clevenger

Gerald Clevenger is an instructor in Network Security at Fountainhead College . He has over 15 years experience in Information Security. Before joining Fountainhead College, Gerald served as Manager of Cyber Security Technical Operations for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at Oak Ridge , Tennessee . Before joining the NNSA Information Security team, Gerald was the Network Administrator for Environmental Restoration for Oak Ridge Operations. He has participated in security audits and assessment for the Department of Energy headquarters in Washington DC , and has designed and implemented an Enhanced Intrusion Detection System for Oak Ridge operations. Gerald holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Tennessee and a Masters in Information Security from Capella University . His certifications include Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), SANS GIAC, SANS Firewall and Perimeter Protection, the National Security Agency's (NSA) INFOSEC Assessment Methodology (IAM) and the NSA's INFOSEC Evaluation Methodology (IEM). 

Bill Dean

Bill Dean is a local Computer Forensics and Electronic Discovery expert with courtroom testimony experience. He possesses an Associates degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology. Along with many other technical certifications, he is a Certified Computer Examiner and an active member of the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners. Bill has served on discussion panels pertaining to the updated Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and is a published author on the topic of Computer Forensics.

Walter Dykas

Walter Dykas is a senior researcher at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) around power systems related topics such as high performance computing, visualization, and security.

Walter Dykas was the Chief Cyber Security Officer of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He established the initial ORNL computer security program in 1997, covering all unclassified and classified computing for multiple R&D programs and business operations, nominally 12,000 computing devices (from workstations to supercomputers) and 10,000+ staff (both on-site and world-wide collaborators).

Prior to establishing the ORNL cyber security program, Walter Dykas was an electrical power system researcher, with focus in large-scale-systems transient stability analysis. Walter has Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engineering degrees from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Tom Evans

Tom Evans is an Online Investigator and Computer Forensic Investigator. He has participated in over 45 search warrants while being assigned to ICAC, and has actively participated in the investigation of over 1300 cases involving the sexual exploitation of minors. Investigator Evans' current assignment deals with the forensic examinations of computers, and pro-active, undercover, on-line investigations. He also trains local law enforcement personnel regarding online investigations and evidence recovery in Internet child exploitation cases. Investigator Evans also educates community members about K.P.D. ICAC goals and accomplishments, and online safety techniques for parents and children. He is a regular speaker at state wide conferences involving the protection of children.

Jim Finch

Mr. Finch was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL). He was an active member of the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1978-1984. He completed the ROTC program at UNL and was commissioned as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer in 1982. He worked for IBM in Sales from 1982-1984. Mr. Finch is married and the proud father of three children.

Mr. Finch began his career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from March of 1976 through November of 1979 as a support employee. He returned to the FBI on June 8, 1984 as a Special Agent, and has served in the Indianapolis, Cleveland, Houston, and Knoxville Divisions, as well two assignment tours at FBI Headquarters. His assignments include service as an investigative agent in the FBI's Violent Crimes and Organized Crime/Drug, White Collar Crimes, and Undercover Programs, and he served as a member of the Indianapolis SWAT team. Mr. Finch's FBI management assignments include service as a Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) in the Office of Professional Responsibility at FBI Headquarters (FBIHQ), where he investigated allegations of serious employee misconduct throughout the FBI; in the Houston Division, where he managed a Drug Squad with investigative responsibility for Organized Crime investigations; as a Group Supervisor in the Houston Division of DEA with an Enforcement Group comprised of FBI and DEA Special Agents; and created and managed the Houston Division's first National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) Squad.

In 2001, Mr. Finch was appointed as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville Division, where he assumed management responsibility for all investigative and administrative programs. In 2003, Mr. Finch was promoted to Inspector at FBIHQ, where he was responsible for managing the inspections of FBI Field Offices, FBIHQ Divisions, and FBI Legal Attache offices outside the United States.

On November 25, 2004, Director Mueller selected Inspector Finch to be Special Agent in Charge of the Milwaukee Field Office.

On May 5, 2006, Mr. Finch was designated Assistant Director, Cyber Division. Mr. Finch reported to Headquarters on June 12, 2006.

Kevin Mandia

Kevin Mandia founded Red Cliff Consulting after leading Foundstone's Incident Response practice, where he gained worldwide recognition as an expert in incident response and computer forensics. Prior to joiningFoundstone, Kevin was a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), where he specialized in computer intrusion cases. Upon leaving the AFOSI, he developed a computer intrusion response course specifically requested by the FBI. Kevin has trained more than 400 FBI agents as well as personnel from the State Department, the CIA, NASA, the U.S. Postal Service, the Air Force, and other government agencies.

Kevin is a regular speaker at numerous forums, including Networld+Interop, Blackhat, Infragard, HTCIA, SC Magazine's Information Security Forum, and Techno Security. He is a guest Professorial Lecturer at Carnegie Melon University and The George Washington University. Kevin has responded to more than 40 computer security incidents in the last 3 years, running the gamut from international computer intrusion to theft of Intellectual Property. The author of two essential books on incident response by McGraw-Hill, Kevin holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Lafayette College and a M.S. in Forensic Science from the George Washington University.

Randy Marchany

Randy Marchany has been involved in the computer industry since 1972. He is currently the director of the VA Tech IT Security Testing Lab, a component of the university's Information Technology Security Office. He is also the Assistant University Information Security Officer for VA Tech. He is the coordinator of VA-CIRT, an incident response team comprising of IRT's from various VA state Universities. He is the author of VA Tech's Acceptable Use Statement which has become a model for the VA state university system. He has been a frequent speaker at national and international conferences such as SANS, IIA, ISACA, ACUA, Network Security, IEEE Symposium on Systems Management, NIST, US Forest & Wildlife Service, Computer Security Conference. DECUS-Canada, Air Force Material Command, EDUCAUSE and ACUA. He's been the subject of articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education on security issues at university campuses. The SANS Institute has described him as the "best storyteller in the computer security field." He has taught professional development seminars on Unix System Management, Forming Incident Response Teams, Auditing Unix Systems, Auditing Internet Security for various professional groups such as EDUCAUSE, ACUA, ISACA, IIA, Ernst & Young and the SANS Institute.

He is a co-author of the FBI/SANS Institute's "Top 10/20 Internet Security Vulnerabilities" document that has become a standard for most computer security and auditing software. He is the co-author of the SANS Institute's "Responding to Distributed Denial of Service Attacks" document that was prepared at the request of the White House in response to the DDOS attacks of 2000. He is a co-author of the SANS Institute's "Computer Security- Incident Handling - Step by Step" which has been recognized as one of the foremost publications on Incident Response. He has been a member of the SANS Institute's faculty since 1992 and is one of the original developers of their GIAC security certification courses. He is a co-author of the EDUCAUSE "Computer and Network Security in Higher Education" booklet. He is a member of the EDUCAUSE security task force.

He is a coauthor of the Center for Internet Security's series of Security Benchmark documents for Solaris, AIX and Windows2000. These benchmarks are available for free and represent the first successful attempt to create a set of consensus documents with detailed steps for implementing system security.

He is one of the founders of the Virginia Alliance for Secure Computing and Networking (www.vascan.org), a consortium of security practitioners and researchers from VA Tech, U of Virginia, James Madison Univ., George Mason Univ. The alliance provides security education, checklists and support for all state agencies in Virginia. The team was awarded the 2005 Information Technology Solutions Award by EDUCAUSE (www.educause.edu).

He was a member of the White House Partnership For Critical Infrastructure Security working group that developed the Consensus Roadmap for responding to the recent series of DDOS Internet Attacks in 2000. He was a recepient of the SANS Institute's Security Technology Leadership Award for 2000. He was a recepient of the VA Governor's Technology Silver Award in 2003.

He is acknowledged as one of the North American masters of the hammer dulcimer. He is the author of the theme song of Public Radio International's nationally syndicated radio program, "World Cafe". His band, "No Strings Attached" was nominated for or won "Indie" (independent record label's version of the Grammy) for Best Album (String Music) category in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990. The band tours regularly in the US, UK and Europe.

Dr. Laura Mather

Laura Mather is MarkMonitor's Senior Scientist focusing on advanced analytics of MarkMonitor's extensive data resources. These analytics include identifying technology to prevent and counteract Phishing as well as the detection of the online sale of counterfeit goods. In the three years before joining MarkMonitor, Laura lead eBay and PayPal's Phishing and Fraud prevention efforts. She also initiated the customer behavior analysis effort for the Britannica.com division of Encyclopaedia Britannica and performed mathematical research for the Department of Defense. Laura has a Ph.D. in computer science and a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics.

Mel Pierce

Mel Pierce is currently assigned to the "Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force" at the Knoxville Police Department as a Forensic Investigator. He has participated in over 45 search warrants while being assigned to the ICAC Task Force and has actively participated in the investigation of over 500 cases involving the sexual exploitation of minors. He has been employed by the Knoxville Police Department since January 1996 and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BA degree in Criminal Justice and Environmental Sociology. Investigator Pierce's current assignment deals with the forensic examinations of computers, and pro-active, undercover, on-line investigations. He also trains local law enforcement personnel regarding first response to child sexual exploitation cases, on-line investigations, seizure of electronic evidence, and electronic evidence recovery in child exploitation cases.

Dr. Michael J. Staggs

Dr. Michael J. Staggs has more than 20 years of network security experience. His 13 years at the Consolidated Space Operations Center working for Contel, GTE and Lockheed Martin culminated in a Chief Security Engineer position for the Allied Signal/50th Space Wing. Dr. Staggs also spent several years in the commercial IT security world as a consultant, principal engineer and sales engineer for Fortune 500 clients. He is a frequent speaker on the subjects of: Hacking, Firewall Design and Penetration, Vulnerability Assessment, Antivirus Theory and Practice, IDS and Incident Response. Dr. Staggs  is also a mentor to United States Air Force (USAF) junior officers and cadets, Schreiver Air Force Base and the USAF Academy .  He is a United States Navy veteran and received his education credentials through studies at several accredited colleges and universities including University of Arizona , Pima and Florida Keys Colleges , University of Phoenix and St Leo's University.

Jack Wiles

Jack has spent over 30 years as a technical manager in the fields of both computer security and physical security. He is a professional speaker and a member of the National Speakers Association. Over 10,000 people to date have seen one or more of his presentations - one of which was presented in the main briefing room at The Pentagon.

He is also the lead author in the recently published book by Syngress/Elsevier titled "Techno Security's Guide to Managing Risks". A. J. Wright

A. J. Wright is the Assessment Team Lead with the Information Security Office at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. A.
